Learn How to Paint with Acrylics
I love acrylics. Want the effect of watercolor or oils? No need to go out and buy a whole new set of paints and brushes; you can still do it with acrylics.
Why acrylics, you ask? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I love the ability to work on smooth or textured surfaces, to completely cover the surface with an opaque color, or to use a glaze to get transparent layer and changing the color with subtle shifts. Acrylic can be a forgiving medium as well, perfect for beginners who are just learning how to paint with acrylics. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve messed something up, only to paint right over that section, once the previous layer is dry, and saved the painting as a whole.
And while the shelves in the painting aisles of the art store can be intimidating, what with all the products, gels, grounds, and tools, I have found the products that work best for what I want to do. There are plenty of acrylic painting techniques and possibilities to explore; why not start with a small collection and experiment a little at a time?
